OUR FOOD:

Who can eat Mama Goodness food? 

Absolutely everybody (* cue Vanessa Amarossi). While Mama Goodness was originally created with postpartum folks and new families in mind, our meals are seasonal and organic, plant-powered, nutrient-dense, and preservative-free, making them the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one, no matter if your baby is 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years old. Postpartum is forever after all.

Our meals are also suitable for pregnant people, as well as for those who are unwell or have experienced loss. They are perfect for those weeks when your baby won't let you put them down, or when you need to parent from the couch and let someone else take care of feeding you for a change. 

Why plant powered?

You don’t need to be following a plant-based diet to enjoy and benefit from our meals. In fact, studies show that we all benefit from consuming at least 30 different plant foods a week, as doing so leads to a more diverse gut microbiome which can benefit your mood, immunity, and overall health.

We manage to cram over 30 different plants into our Fill Your Freezer packs. Incredible, right? Everything can be enjoyed as-is, or with a side of salad or greens, to inject even more plants into your weekly intake.

Given that plant based foods are also lighter on the planet, and that studies show we should be eating only 15% of our calories from animals, we decided to base our business on the wonder of seasonal and organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and grains. You can absolutely serve animal protein with our meals if you wish to do so, or eat it with a different meal at a different time of day. We believe that variety and sustainability is key to a healthy and nutritious diet. 

What dietary requirements can you cater to?

All our meals are egg, dairy and soy free. In addition to this, we can offer a wheat free or gluten free option – simply select this at checkout.

At present we are unable to cater to fructose or nut allergies.

Where can I find a list of ingredients?

Can my partner and children eat your lactation cookies?

If you are willing to share, yes! Our cookies are jam-packed full of organic and nutritious ingredients that are suitable for all ages and stages of life. Our cookies are still delicious, but use oat flour instead of wheat flour, coconut sugar instead of refined cane sugar, and a whole lotta healthy fats and protein from almonds, hemp, chia and flax, as well as a magnesium boost from cacao nibs. Compared to many other cookies and lactation products on the market, ours is a healthier alternative.

Where do you source your ingredients? 

Every ingredient that goes into your meals is sourced from local and/or organic businesses where possible. We use Organic Ease and Elgin for your fresh produce, as well as Biviano for any of the trickier to find herbs or vegetables. Local and family owned pasta business Lello make our fresh, egg-free lasagne sheets each week, while our dear friends Back Alley Bakes bake our seeded spelt sourdough. All of our nuts, seeds and grains, passata, herbs and spices come from Honest to Goodness, Terra Madre and Austral Herbs. 

Is your packaging sustainable?

The trays containing our Lasagne and the film on top of them are home compostable (just remove the sticker first). The box your food comes in, and the paper bag your bread comes in, are recyclable (we highly recommend using the large delivery box as afternoon entertainment if you have toddlers or young children in your home). Our cookie and granola boxes are also recyclable and the cellophane wrapper inside the boxes is made from wood pulp, which is both biodegradable and compostable.

The plastic tubs that our soup, stew and daal come in are recyclable, however we highly recommend keeping them and using them again and again, both to store and freeze your own meals and to take meals to friends.

In addition to that, keeping our meals free from animal products reduces their emissions significantly.

Can I purchase the Fill Your Freezer items individually?

At present, no, however this is something we are working towards in the future. Keep your eyes on our website, socials and newsletter for updates and announcements. 

DELIVERIES:

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver our Fill Your Freezer packs within Victoria only – please see below for a comprehensive list of postcodes our delivery partner services.

We post our non-perishable food items and botanical products Australia and NZ wide.

How does ordering and delivery work?

We operate on a pre-order basis, and you have up until 11:59pm on Sunday evening to order for delivery the following week.

Both Fill Your Freezer and postal orders are packed by us each Monday and collected by our delivery partner on the following day: Tuesday. Fill Your Freezer packs are stored in a frozen facility overnight, and then delivered to the following postcodes on the following days (please note they are in numerical order):

Why is my order still saying ‘out for delivery’ in the shop app?

Unfortunately for our business, the 'Shop' app is not a reliable source when it comes to delivery updates for Fill Your Freezer packs. This is because the software our delivery partner uses does not integrate with the ‘Shop’ software. For this reason, please keep an eye on the live update in the email you receive from Detrack if you are awaiting a Fill Your Freezer pack.

Can I request a delivery time?

Unfortunately we have absolutely no control over what time of day our Fill Your Freezer packs will be delivered, as our delivery partner is working to a tight schedule that includes not only Mama Goodness orders but deliveries for many other businesses as well. You will be sent an email by them on Tuesday or Wednesday so you can track it, and our food is delivered in an insulated box, so will remain frozen for a number of hours after delivery if you are not home when it’s delivered. 

Why do you only deliver your Fill Your Freezer Packs within Victoria?

As we don’t use preservatives, we need our food to stay frozen in order to ensure freshness. At present, our only interstate courier option requires us to fill a pallet of boxes in order for them to stay frozen when travelling interstate. We are looking into occasional deliveries to NSW and if the demand is there, we will do this on a monthly basis. Please keep an eye on our website, socials and newsletter for any updates relating to this, and feel free to send us an email with ‘Sydney’ in the subject line, to let us know you would be keen to order a pack.

Do you have a pickup option?

We try to accommodate pickups where possible from our kitchen in Alphington, Victoria. Please send us an email and include your phone number, and we will call you to see if we can make it work.

GIFTS:

My order is a gift - can I include a note?

Absolutely! Just write your note in the ‘notes’ section at checkout and we will pop it on a card and include it with your order. We also want to mention that we don’t include any invoices or packing slips in our orders, so gift recipients will never know the value of their goodies.

How do your gift cards work?

When you purchase a gift card, it is emailed to the email address you enter at checkout. You can forward this email, or print it, if you wish to do so. For security reasons determined by Shopify, we are unable to view the gift card code and as such, we do not send physical copies of the card. It’s not the best system, we agree, and unfortunately, we are unable to customise the image on the card that is sent either. 

A note about gifting our packs:

While we completely understand wanting to surprise your friends by saying ‘look on your porch! There’s a box of yummy food waiting for you!’ - in our experience, not giving the lucky recipients a heads up creates room for so many errors, including boxes being stolen, especially if they live in an apartment. In these instances, we do not take any responsibility for lost or stolen boxes delivered to recipients who are not aware that they are being delivered to.
